Broadband complex two-mode quadratures for quantum optics

چکیده
In their seminal paper, Caves and Schumaker presented a new formalism for quantum optics, intended to serve as building block describing two-photon processes, in terms of new, generalized qudratures. The important, revolutionary concept was that it fundamentally two-mode, i.e. the related observables could not be attributed any single one comprising modes, but rather complex quadrature only both them. Here, we propose subtle, meaningful modification important work. Unlike above proposal, deliberately choose frequency-agnostic definition two-mode quadrature, motivate on physical grounds. This simple has far-reaching implications – real imaginary parts quadratures now coincide with famous EPR variables, our operators transform trivially under single-mode squeezing operations. Their quadratic forms, which call “quadrature powers” are shown succinctly generate SU (1, 1) algebra Hamiltonians, correspond directly broadband observables, have been measured experiment explicitly properties like entanglement. point view gives fresh perspective processes is completely agnostic bandwidth, reveals intriguing ways understanding measuring squeezing.

Error models for mode-mismatch in linear optics quantum computing
One of the most significant challenges facing the development of linear optics quantum computing (LOQC) is mode-mismatch, whereby photon distinguishability is introduced within circuits, undermining quantum interference effects. We examine the effects of mode-mismatch on the parity (or fusion) gate, the fundamental building block in several recent LOQC schemes. We derive simple error models for...

Recently we have suggested that two-dimensional broadband transformation optics devices based on metamaterial designs may be built using tapered waveguides. Here we review application of this principle to broadband electromagnetic cloaking, trapped rainbow, and novel microscopy devices.

We present a new approach to engineering broadband sources of entangled photon pairs for quantum interferometry. The source is based on quasi-phase-matched spontaneous parametric down conversion in a titanium diffused periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide with a strongly-chirped poling period. The proposed non-standard asymmetric poling mitigates phase distortions associated with the pro...
